List your achievements and core competencies : Inclusion of key result areas in a strategic manner will always give you an upper hand over rest of the applicants.  You should clearly put your accomplishments and competencies to prove the fact that you are better suited for the job than others.

Cover letter : Most of the jobseekers forget to attach a cover letter with the resume, which is a major blunder. A resume highlights your professional and academic credentials, while a cover letter compliments them in accordance to the required job profile. It is advisable that a cover letter should be drafted along with the resume, so that there remains no scope of loopholes.

Right format : Choosing a correct format for a resume depends on the kind of job you are applying for.  A candidate seeking a high level managerial position in Sales and Marketing should choose a functional resume format, which would allow him or her to list the major achievements, followed by employment history. 

Use of proper terms : It is one of the vital points that needs to be kept in mind while creating a resume. An Engineering or IT professional has to have all the terminology mentioned in the resume to make it relevant for jobs in  technical field.  The same goes with Management guys, for more a resume will be conducive to field of work, the better are its chances to click.
